After earning her doctorate at the U of M, Chen started Cocoon House, a small business focused on designing, importing and wholesaling women's silk clothing. Cocoon House, located in St. Paul, MN, has sales representatives around the country and sells to retailers and catalog companies nationwide. Cocoon House puts great emphasis on quality. Chen works personally with artists here and in China to develop distinctive, beautiful designs that are digitally printed on fine silk. She partners with factory co-ops that provide good working conditions and fair wages for their workers. Cocoon House also puts great emphasis on service. Chen works closely with her employees to ensure customer orders are fulfilled quickly and efficiently.
