Jumping Horse, County Sligo, Ireland - Silver Gelatin Print, Archival Pigment Prints
This image captures the essence of the wild beauty and spirit of the horse jumping up, ready to take off through fields in County Sligo, Ireland. County Sligo is in northwestern Ireland, known for the legacy of local poet W.B. Yeats, whose grave is in a cemetery in Drumcliff, near flat-topped Benbulbin Mountain. In Lough Gill, tiny Innisfree Island inspired one of his poems. The Caves of Kesh, famous in Irish mythology, are in south County Sligo. A recent decoding of the work of Marinus of Tyre and Ptolemy shows Sligo as the likely location of Nagnata, an important place of assembly in the Iron Age. Nearly half of Sligo is rough pasture, predominantly in the mountains, hills, and peat bogs. The many megalithic cemeteries and early churches and monastic settlements scattered throughout the county make Sligo one of the richest archaeological sites in Europe.
