The color bands and the patchwork application of fabric evoke a landscape with a high horizon line. Signed and dated lower left corner—Magill '62. In a nifty, purpose-built frame. JOHN MAGILL studied in Paris at the Academie de la Grande Chaumiere, in Madrid at the famed Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando, and at the California School of Fine Arts (today the San Francisco Art Institute). He traveled extensively in North America; his exhibition sites include the following: the Delgado Museum of New Orleans (today the New Orleans Museum of Art), the Frye Art Museum in Seattle, and the California Palace of the Legion of Honor (today the Legion of Honor) in San Francisco.
