African Dogan Ladder - 4 sold separately
African Dogan Ladders *4 unique pieces available - Sold separately These notched ladders are traditionally used by the Dogon people to reach the upper levels of granaries, access flat house roofs, and cross cliff gaps. While common among various groups in southern West Africa, these ladders are primarily linked to the Dogon. Crafted for practical use, wooden granary ladders like the one in the PLU collection feature a straightforward design. The steps are carved from naturally forked trees using an adze, with visible horizontal tool marks on the wood. The Y-shaped top is slightly flattened at the back to improve stability. Repeated handling smooths and polishes the steps, creating a patina. Although designed for daily function, Dogon ladders are also valued in African art collections and contemporary interior design due to their minimalistic and geometric form. *Due to the unique nature of this item, please reach out to Modern Resale for a shipping quote or for more detailed images o
