Geometrical and complex, Chair One is an engineering masterpiece. A shell formed by flat triangular elements which, joined at an angle to each other, like a football, create a three-dimensional shape. The use of aluminum die-casting technology, which allows for complex geometries, made it possible to create a collection in which the voids take over from the solids and characterize the aesthetic quality. "When we started working on the chair, we liked the idea of exploring aluminum die-casting technology. I was attracted by the image of hot, liquid aluminum fired into a mold to create the chair. It created not only the geometry but also the structure. Chair One attempts to bring these two things together, showing a structure that is also the geometry of the chair" Konstantin Grcic says. The process consists of forcing liquid aluminum into a metal mold under high pressure to give the shape of the item. This technique is used for mass production. In just few seconds the hot, liquid aluminum gets pressed into the heated form through special channels. After cooling the tool, it opens to set free the seating shell. Do not use abrasive sponges as they may leave scratches. Avoid using acidic products, solvents and products containing ammonia.
