COVID-19—Am I Safe?

The modern world has never faced a pandemic like this before, causing widespread quarantine, loss of jobs, and death on a global scale. Should we fear? Should we hide?Some think we are safe when we have our trust in Jesus Christ. And this is certainly true in one sense, for Jesus has taken away the curse of God’s judgment through His sacrifice on the Cross. But does this mean that Christians can never get sick, or be infected with COVID-19?The Bible promises us the gift of eternal life when we place our trust in Jesus, but does not make promises that we shall never fall sick. Verses that seem to promise freedom from illness and disease (Psalm 91:10, or Psalm 103:3) are written for the Jews under the Law, and were not meant to be taken as a promise to all in every generation. If a person wants to use these texts to claim freedom from disease and sickness, they must also be careful to obey all of God’s Law in the Old Testament, since these promises are conditional on doing so.
