How to iron on an embroidered patch Prepare the iron: Preheat your iron to the highest setting for cotton or the fabric you're using, usually around 350°F. Make sure the iron is dry and the steam is off. Position the patch: Place the patch where you want it on the fabric. Protect the fabric: Put a thin cloth or parchment square over the patch. For delicate fabrics like wool, use a damp cloth. Iron the patch: Apply firm pressure with the iron for about 30 seconds. Move the iron around to avoid burning the fabric. Cool: Let the patch and fabric cool for about five minutes. Iron the back: Turn the fabric inside out and iron the area behind the patch for about 30 seconds.
