Born a Jew, she became an atheist, a philosopher, a teacher and, then, after reading the Autobiography of St. Teresa of Avila, she became Catholic and a Carmelite nun. She was killed with her sister, also a nun, by the Nazis in Auschwitz. She is shown in her habit, with a book (for learning) and with the prisoner's Star of David. Her feast is August 9
