Origin: MediterraneanCirca: 330 BC to 320 BCDimensions: 5.75" Height x 10" Diameter; x 14.1" Wide including handles (14.6 cm x 25.4 cm; 35.8 cm wide with handles)Medium: Terracotta Attributed to The Painter of Naples 1778. Elegantly potted this kylix sits on a high foot, with a lively painted satyr and draped female figure decorating the tondo. The satyr stands with his head turned back, holding a thyrsos and rhyton, while the female is seen gazing forward as she holds a mirror and fillet and gently bends her left leg. The pair of figures stand on an egg and dart groundline, flanked on either side by a beautifully painted swan and hound. Enclosed within a band of ivy and berries, a quartered and ribboned ball and two ivy leaves are seen in the field, with a palmette flanked by foliate scrolling in the exergue. The exterior displays a band of dotted laurel interspersed with large roundels decorated with rays, waves and zigzags, all finished by details in added white and yellow.
