Origin: EgyptCirca: 30 BC - 320 ADDimensions: 7.25" Height (18.5 cm), 1.8 kgMedium: Limestone This is a superb limestone statuette of the goddess Isis, seated on a throne, in the act of breastfeeding her child Horus seated on her lap. The child is largely missing, however the lower part of the head is still partially preserved, above which the tripartite and scaled wig of Isis is still visible. Around her neck she wears an elaborate collar, decorated with triangular beads while her body below is wrapped in an ankle length chiton. The well detailed folds wrap the sinuous body, with a cloak (himation) that covers the back and is visible from the sides of the cubic throne. The regal throne rests on a raised plinth, the sides of which are decorated with engraved motifs.
