The Blue Stream Goby is a bicolored species with a brilliant blue base color and rows of black patches along the back and flank. The tail is red-orange and ringed with electric blue. Male specimens top out at 5 inches in captivity while females grow to about 4 inches. In the wild, this goby is found in high pH, high flow streams with cool water, so similar parameters and conditions are ideal to ensure the long-term survival of this species in captivity. Strong aeration, water pumps/wavemakers, and unheated tanks are ideal for providing high flow, high oxygen content and cool water for this species. S. lagocephalus will accept sinking pellets, frozen and live microcrustaceans and bloodworms.
