Swift Knight Pendant
This knight pendant features a carved lapis lazuli matrix engraved with a flying swift. This pendant is the prototype mini knight created as a sample for collection. This one has a few key anatomical differences from the rest: he lacks the long pointy feet, exaggerated bulge and broadened shoulders, and he has slightly different armor. In the Middle Ages, swift birds were an inspiration for the mythical martlet, a bird that was said to have no feet and that never roosted. In nature, swifts feed and mate in the sky. This seal invokes on-your-feet decision-making, taking risks, and doing things boldly 'on the fly'.Historically, seals secured correspondence and verified the authority of the sender before a message was opened. This piece is a nod to that tradition, functioning as both pendant and working desk seal.
