It was my first time turning Jacaranda on the lathe. Its grain looks warm and quiet, similar to Pine but denser. My fellow woodturner was moving away and he wanted to move as little as possible, so I decided to take a couple of bowls from him, and this is one of them. He said this Jacaranda was from his neighborhood in Southern California. It was roughly turned and dried already, so all I had to do was finish turning it to a shape I like on the lathe. The bowl is 10" wide, 4 1/4" tall, and about 1/2" thick on the top.I finished the bowl with Walnut oil. It requires some maintenance as the bowl is meant to be used. I will include the maintenance instruction. It's signed and dated on the bottom.
