Nantucket Keepsake Basket with Carved Heart Lid
This keepsake basket is truly one of a kind. Every single part was made by me. While it's small and likely best as a decorative piece, I like to think it's functional too, because it’s made to spark a little joy in your daily life. I also think it would make a sweet little basket for a flower girl to carry at a wedding. I wove this basket using one of the very first molds I made years ago. It measures approximately 6 inches wide, 4½ inches deep, and 6 inches tall (including the handle). The lid is held in place with magnets and is attached with a wooden hinge on the back. See the material list below for each part: The handle is steam bent and made from Cherry laminated over White Oak. The knobs are Maple, turned on my lathe. The base for the body is made of Maple and the lid base is made of Cherry. The Cherry rims are layered with Maple to reinforce and prevent warping, and they feature tiny Maple beads, also lathe-turned. Lastly, I hand-carved the heart on the lid from Holly wood.
