Second highest ridgeline in the Northeast, the Franconia Ridge includes the 5,000 foot summits of Mount Lafayette and Mount Lincoln. The different characters of the eastern and westerns slopes of the Ridge are apparent in this image, taken from the south over Little Haystack – the western slope is rugged and in some places precipitous; the eastern slope is just as exposed, but has a gentler angle as it drops into the Pemigewasset wilderness.
