Sphagnum mosses are commonly known as Peat Moss (its “dead” state), Sphagnums require more consistent or constant moisture or water sources. They make good groundcovers for waterfall surrounds, rain gardens or bog gardens. They feel soft and spongy to the touch. Many species of Sphagnums can grow in a range of climates. Color transitions may shift from green to bronze to even a white state where it seems devoid of chlorophyll.
