Alice in Wonderland

As an unconventional stage adaptation of classic stories by Lewis Carroll, Peter Westergaard's opera +Alice in Wonderland distinguishes itself by breaking operatic convention. In +Alice, Westergaard dispenses with orchestral accompaniment altogether, instead substituting seven singers, who sing 41 roles and accompany themselves with instruments including drums, bird whistles, hand bells, voices and sound effects. This release features a 2008 production of Westergaard's +Alice by the Center for Contemporary Opera, with featured singers including soprano Abigail Fischer, tenor Eric Jordan, countertenor David Kellett and soprano Karen Jolicoeur.
