Al Kent's discerning excavation work for the BBE label continues with the fourth volume of the Disco Love series, released seven years after the original set. The DJ and compiler puts together another assortment of rare dancefloor cuts from the '70s and early '80s, and as usual favors selections with gritty elegance. Several standouts make their first appearance on a real-deal compilation. Among them are Genobia Jeter's poised dancefloor gospel gem "Things Got to Get Better," Mary Mundy's rolling "Love Is Gone," and Betty Everett's storming version of Lamont Dozier's "Prophecy," originally recorded by Margie Joseph. Also of note is a track with a plump bassline and sweet vocal that comes from an act with a perfectly descriptive name: Fresh Fruit. Six of the tracks are crafty Kent re-edits. [The two-CD edition features the unmixed tracks on the first disc and Kent's DJ mix of those tracks on the second one.] ~ Andy Kellman
