Following archaeologists as they search for what narrator Joe Morton calls "time capsules from another age" in Egypt. At Saqqara, near the pyramids, Alain Zivie finds the tomb of King Tut's wet nurse. Zivie also finds many mummified cats, and then he finds the tomb of one of Ramses the Great's top dogs: the diplomat who negotiated a peace treaty with the Hittites. Some 200 miles inland, in an oasis town that flourished around 600 B.C., Egyptian antiquities minister Zahi Hawass explores a regional governor's tomb. It's surprisingly lavish. "Apparently," says Morton, "he saw himself as almost an equal to the pharaoh."
