Lace-winged dragonflies border this exceptional table lamp by Tiffany Studios. The lamp's shade displays a complex, overlapping design of golden dragonflies in a beautiful marriage of nature and geometry. The natural motif continues to the cast bronze base, which features a variation on the ball and claw foot resembling an acorn. The "Dragonfly" shade was one of Tiffany Studio's finest and most successful designs, available in a range of color combinations on a variety of bases. The design was conceived by Clara Driscoll for Tiffany in 1899 and won a bronze medal the next year at the 1900 Paris International Exposition. Driscoll's innovation lies in the wings of the dragonfly. To achieve their delicate lacy effect, she devised a brass filigree overlay that could be soldered over the glass wings, achieving a more intricate pattern.  Driscoll, a gifted designer responsible for some of Tiffany's most iconic lamp shades, began working for Tiffany in 1887.
