The Muonionalusta meteorite is one of the most significant meteorites on record. One of the oldest meteorites ever unearthed, the Muonionalusta is estimated to have formed in the iron core of a planetoid over 4.5 billion years ago, while the Earth was still in early development. It is believed that the Muonionalusta meteorite made landfall on our planet as early as 1 million B.C.E., weathering four separate ice ages before being discovered by a 10 year-old Scandinavian farm boy in 1906. The Muonionalusta is famous for being one of the most predominant sources of meteoric iron on the market; supplying material for products ranging from watch faces and jewelry to museum specimens and sculpting material, many of which are available on our website and in-store. Also featured in this specimen are inclusions of the rare iron sulfide mineral, troilite, which is named after its discoverer, Domenico Troili. Troili discovered troilite in a meteorite which he witnessed falling in 1766. This event
