1920s Heavily Embroidered Coral Satin Metallic Chinese Robe

Antique 1920s coral satin Chinese robe with heavy hand done metallic embroidery. The embroidered design is done in real gold and silver metal cord, reminiscent of the gold lame so popular for flappers of the era. The metallic embroidery is raised on the surface with couching stitches to hold it in place. Quite possibly the most unique feature on this robe is the highly expressive embroidered Chinese figures. There are 8 of these figures on the coat, with 4 on either side of the coat posing in various pastoral scenes. The expressions on these faces are very well done, and are made with silk floss. Fully lined in a fuchsia pink and gold silk jacquard, this coat is just as beautiful on the outside as it is on the inside.
