Examining a broad range of themes, from the scientific realities of climate change to poetic longing for the outdoors, the images are nuanced explorations of the forces—internal and external—that both pit us against and bring us closer to nature. This image depicts the Juneau Icefield Research Program in Alaska, which employs scientists and students in a long-term study of the Vaughan Lewis Glacier. The program has determined that at the current rate of climatic warming, this glacier will not exist by the year 2200.
