Each year, she embarks on a photographic journey crossing the American landscape, where recently she has photographed the geology, politics and culture of the borderland of the United States and Mexico. Sambunaris captures the remnants of a fire that had begun in Marfa, Texas and raged over 20 miles, ending at the road that horizontally bisects this vast landscape in Fort Davis, Texas. Victoria Sambunaris received her MFA from Yale University in 1999 and is currently a critic at the Yale School of Art.
