Shen Wei (Chinese, b. 1977) Photo Moment, Guilin, Guangxi Province 2009  C-print 12 x 9 2/3 inch image on 11 x 14 inch paper Signed edition of 50 In his series Chinese Sentiment, Shen Wei (Chinese, b. 1977) attempts to reconnect with what he calls “the real China,” offering a view of his native country through moments of daily life different from the political and economic lens through which it is often viewed.   Photo Moment, Guilin, Guangxi Province sheds light on Wei’s complicated relationship with China – a culture he is from yet is foreign to as a current US resident. Shen Wei lives and works in New York City.  He holds an MFA in photography, video, and related media from the School of Visual Arts, New York, a BFA in photography from Minneapolis College of Art and Design, and a degree in decorative arts from Shanghai Light Industry College.
