C.W. McCall "Convoy" 1970s MGM Records 45 Award
MGM Records award for C.W. McCall hit "Convoy", which was released in 1975. The song topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for a week and spent six weeks atop the Country chart. It also reached #1 in Canada and #2 in the UK, and it charted in numerous other countries. A re-recorded version was also later used in the 1978 film of the same name. Interestingly, C.W. McCall was a character created by Chip Davis and Bill Fries, the latter of whom voiced the performer on the record. While this is not a RIAA award, the track was in fact certified Gold by the RIAA in December 1975.
