RIAA Platinum Award for Jimmy Buffett album Banana Wind album presented to Jimmy Buffett. Released on June 4, 1996, the album was certified Gold by the RIAA on August 7, 1996 for 500,000 copies sold. Remember Jimmy Buffett (1946-2023) with this award. The album is most notable for the inclusion of Buffett's track "Jamaica Mistaica", which chronicles the famous 1996 incident in Jamaica when local law enforcement mistook Buffett's seaplane for a smuggling operation and shot at the aircraft. While no one was injured, there were numerous bullet holes in the plane which is now displayed in Orlando, Florida across from Buffett's Margaritaville restaurant. It reached #4 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart. By 1998 the album was certified Platinum by the RIAA for one million copies sold.
