Approximately 150 open-pollinated, non-gmo, and pesticide free heirloom Chioggia beet seeds (Beta vulgaris) per packet. Italian heirloom from the coastal city of Chioggia. Came to America in the mid-1800s. Alternating rings. Sweet flavor. Grows in zones 3-12. Direct sow seeds 4 weeks before the last frost. Soak seeds in room temperature water up to 24 hours. Then sow 0.5 in deep and pat down soil. Add compost. Need full sun and well drained soil. Space 1-2 in apart. Germination takes 5-14 days. When seedlings are 2-4 in tall, space them to 4-6 in apart. Matures in 60 days. Plant with onions, bush beans, cabbage, and broccoli.
