I am an Incense Pedestal Stand. You might find me too beautiful to use, but donʼt put me on a pedestal. My blackened brass belly can handle the burn.   Curator's Notes    I find that the forming of a ritual can be incredibly grounding. Burning incense, the most ancient of rituals, reminds me to slow down. To savor the day.   This incense holder was made using traditional casting techniques from Takaoka, Japan, a city with a reputation built on metal work across 400 years. The centuries of knowledge behind its making give this piece an ancient spirit of its own. The delicate details lend it lightness, and the blackened metal body lend it weight.   Incense Pedestal Stand was curated by Angélique Chmielewski   Designer/Maker    Maker: Kasahara Shoundo Co.   Designer: Yuka Arii   Specifications   Dimensions:  3” (w) x 3” (l) x 6” (h) or 76mm (w) x 76mm (l) x 152mm (h)   Weight:  18 oz or 510 gr   Materials: Brass (60% copper, 40% zinc)   Details Made in Japan Can be used to burn various types of incense e.g. cone, resin, smudge, stick, herbs, etc. Place incense directly in the bowl or on a bed of ash To use with stick incense, fill bowl partway with ash, sand, or rice and insert as many sticks as can comfortably fit Blackened antique brass finish Supplied in a paulownia (kiri) wood box Wipe with diluted dishwashing detergent and a soft cloth or gentle sponge after use if needed Wipe dry with a dry cloth Do not use a metal polisher The color may fade slightly over time
