AESTHETIC BROWN TRANSFER WARE CUP & SAUCERFor consideration is this antique c/s set by G L Ashworth & Brothers of Hanley, North Staffordshire England in the delicate Empress pattern. This gorgeous Aesthetic Movement pair dates to the later part of the 1800's. The transfer of flowing scrolls intertwined with leaves and stylized flowers wraps around the cup from one side of the handle to the other. The same pattern is shown as a small medallion on the center of the saucer and makes up its border as well. Ashworth later became part of the Masons group of potters.(1968)Measures: Saucer is 6" and a little less than 1" deep. It is almost like a shallow bowl, which is often the case with some of the very old, true antique, pieces. The up is 4.25" handle to opposite side of rim and has a simple, yet lovely shape and nice feel in the hand.Condition: Crazing, commensurate with age, is present. Overall condition is very nice.
