Okura Nishiki Kobukusa Dashibukusa
Okura Nishiki | 大蔵錦 This is one of the renowned meibutsugire (famous textiles). It is said to have been presented to the Kyōgen actor Ōkura Dayū by Toyotomi Hideyoshi. The ground pattern consists of a five-colored diagonal checkerboard (ishidatami) design, upon which stylized motifs of gourds with leaves and flowers, conch shells (horagai), and waves are artfully arranged. A variant of this textile, featuring the same five-colored checkerboard background with circular dragon motifs, is known as Ōkura kinran (Ōkura brocade).
