Crichton & Co. sterling silver 14-piece dinnerware set or service, all adorned with gadrooned rims, in an elegant, geometric design, consisting of: five coasters measuring 6 1/4'' in diameter by 1/2'' in height, made in New York in the early 20th century six dinner plates measuring 10 1/2'' in diameter by 7/8'' in height, made in New York in the early 20th century two chargers measuring 12 1/2''in diameter by 3/4'' in height, made in London in 1929 and in 1930 an oval platter, measuring 14 1/2'' in length by 10 1/2'' in width by 3/4'' in height, made in London in 1932 Hallmarks are shown. Total weight is an impressive 281 troy ounces. Crichton & Co. was established around 1890 by Lionel Alfred Crichton. In 1920 the firm was active with premises in London (22 Old Bond Street), New York (636 Fifth Avenue) and Chicago (622 South Michigan Avenue). The firm went out of business in the 1950s.
