Georg Jensen by J. Rohde Rare Sterling Silver Hammered Candlestick #441 and in Art Deco Style
Rare Georg Jensen sterling silver hand hammered candlestick in pattern number 441, made between circa 1925 and 1932, in Art Deco style. The beautiful hammering of the candlestick complements the elegant design with sophisticated yet fluid geometric shapes. It measures 12 5/8'' in height by 4 1/4'' in diameter at the base (1 7/8'' at the top), weighs 21.8 troy ounces, and bears hallmarks as shown. It is sold with the shade, which measures 7 3/4'' in height. Danish silversmith Georg Jensen (1866-1935) set up his own silver business in 1904 in Copenhagen. Jensen's training in metalsmithing -- along with his education in the fine arts -- allowed him to combine the two disciplines and revive the tradition of the artist craftsman. Soon, the beauty and quality of his creations caught the eye of the public and his success was assured. In 1912, expansion of his studio began in earnest.
