
Arrowleaf Aster
Symphyotrichum urophyllum Symphyotrichum urophyllum, affectionately known as the White Arrowleaf Aster, is a charming herbaceous perennial that forms a delightful semi-evergreen rosette of basal leaves, each reaching up to 10 inches across. As spring arrives, this lovely plant sends up one or more upright to ascending stems adorned with alternate leaves. The stems are a soft light green or yellowish green, round in shape, and have a delicate quality to them. At the top, it produces a cheerful cluster of numerous, short-stalked, daisy-like flowers that blossom from the upper leaf axils. These lovely flowers measure about ½ to ¾ inches across, showcasing 8 to 15 white to pale blue petals (ray flowers) that encircle a sunny pale yellow center disk, which gracefully turns reddish as they mature.
