May Night Sage
Salvia × sylvestris 'Mainacht' May Night This nonnative hybrid perennial Salvia, commonly known as wood sage, comes from the lovely combination of S. nemorosa and S. pratensis. With its charming clump-forming habit, it boasts beautiful, medium-green leaves that are oblong to lanceolate in shape. The flowers of Salvia x sylvestris are large, tubular, and two-lipped, usually gracing our gardens in shades of blue to lavender purple. Most of the blooms appear between late spring and early summer, but you might spot some sporadic flowers throughout the summer as well. This plant enjoys dry to medium, well-drained soil and thrives in full sun. It flourishes in moist, humusy soils with good drainage, and also does well in gravelly or sandy soils, showing an impressive resilience to drought. While these plants can bloom repeatedly during summer, providing them with regular moisture helps to boost their flowering. In optimal growing conditions, they may spread quite quickly!
