Woolly Stemodia
Stemodia lanata Common names include Woolly Stemodia and Gary-woolly Twintip. A delightful plant native to the coastal and southern regions of Texas and northern Mexico. Although its native habitat is sandy soils, it adapts well to other well-draining substrates. It spreads beautifully through stolons and can create a lovely blanket of velvety gray-green leaves. Small, scattered light purple flowers with white throats bloom spring through fall. This plant is perfect for trailing over the edges of pots or retaining walls. Although evergreen in warmer climates, it will die back to the ground in hard freezes and reemerge in very early Spring. Prune dead foliage or to create a more compact form. Larval host plant to Twintip Buckeye butterflies. BONAP MAP Height: 4”-6”Spread: 2’-3’Bloom: April-NovemberLight: Full SunWater: LowZone: 8-11Origin: Texas, Mexico
