Entire piece is handcarved from a singe piece of cottonwood root, as is the Hopi tradition The Blue Corn Maiden appears at Soyal ceremony at the start of the Katsina season. She blesses the openings to the Hopi kivas with cornmeal and a prayer for the corn crops to provide ongoing food for Mother Earth's children. Blue Corn Maiden reminds us to always be thankful for the rich bounty of our Mother Earth.
