Mayo/Yoeme Gourd

Lagenaria siceraria.  The fruit shapes for this accession are mostly long teardrop shapes. The Yaqui/Yoeme use this gourd to make traditional instruments used in cultural ceremonies.  The shape and size of a gourd will determine which instrument it may be used for.  Collected in Vicam Estacion in Sonora in the early 1990's.  From our Seed Bank Collection.  Origin: low coastal, about 150' elevation Gourds 1 - 1.5' tall Approx. 3.5g/15 seeds per packet.
