Diospyros virginiana (American Persimmon) is a relative of their Asian cousins, but this particular tree is native to the lower Midwest.  Naturally occurring as far north as Peoria, IL they are comfortably cultivated far into the upper Midwest. This tree suckers so it may not be desirable in smaller landscapes unless a more natural look is desired. Edible persimmon fruits (1-2€ in diameter) mature going into fall with green to red-purple fruits. Fruits may persist on the tree into winter.  Fruit can be produced after 5 years. These trees are dioecious so a female trees need a male pollinator in order to set fruit. Unfortunately, we do not sex our plants.
