Helenium autumnale (Sneezeweed)
Helenium autumnale (Sneezeweed) is a highlight of the autumn garden with its abundant bright yellow daisy-like flowers with pretty notched petals. With flowers beginning in late August and sometimes lasting until early October it aims to please. Reaching about four feet, it thrives in wetter full sun and mostly sunny locations. Pollinators of all kinds flock to this plant. Interestingly enough, its leaves and flowers were once powdered and used as a snuff in Victorian time to "sneeze the evil spirits out", resulting in its common name.
