It is crossed by the Colorado River, and inch,ldes a small part of Arches National Park. The quadrangle is in the fold and fault belt of the salt-cored anticline region in the northern Paradox basin. The Paradox basin was an asymmetrical basin whose deepest part formed adjacent to the ancestral Uncompahgre uplift during Pennsylvanian to Late Triassic time.
