The map area is in the eastern Basin and Range Province and includes several mainly north-south-trending mountain ranges and intervening valleys as well as the southern part of Great Salt Lake. The map (plate 1) shows the progress in the third year of a multi-year project to map the geology of the quadrangle at an intermediate scale (1:62,500). An accompanying 39-page booklet includes geologic unit descriptions, figures, and map explanation which includes primary sources of geologic mapping, correlation charts, lithologic columns, and geologic symbols.
