Spotted Towhee Encounter

With their striking markings, Spotted Towhees are always a delight to see. I glimpsed this bird during a walk in mid-July in Lory State Park in northern Colorado. Perched on the branches of a fallen tree branch, it was surrounded by a patch of bee balm (Monarda fistula).This plant's pink blossoms were alive with pollinating insects. This painting is my attempt to share this enchanting encounter. In addition to the towhee, I included a Nevada bumblebee and a painted lady butterfly, two of the many pollinators I noticed visiting the surrounding bee balm flowers.
