French Line: A fold-out (18" by 24") First Class deck plan for the the DE GRASSE. Although undated, it is from 1948 when the ship returned to service. The plan shows five decks in detail plus b&w photos of the Main Dining Room, Children's Dining Room, Terrace Cafe. Promenade Deck, Children's Playroom, Main Lounge, a suite, and four cabins. The plan opens to a stirring story about the French Line's once grand fleet and their tragic losses. "Of the proud roster of French Line ships which plied the North Atlantic sealanes before the war, LAFAYETTE, CHAMPLAIN, PARIS, ILE DE FRANCE, and NORMANDIE, the DE GRASSE carries on for the moment alone." The story contains to tell of troop ship victories, losses due to fire and negligence, and the rebuilding program which was to bring grand liners such as the ILE DE FRANCE and LIBERTE into service by 1950. But in 1948, the DE GRASSE was the French Line's only gangplank across the ocean. Very good condition.
