STRATHAIRD & STRATHNAVER - 1950s fold-out interiors brochure

P&O Lines: A fold-out (15" by 20") interiors brochure from the mid-1950s for the beloved STRATHAIRD and STRATHNAVER sisters. These ships were the pride of the P&O fleet when introduced in 1931 and 1932 and carried three funnels to connote speed, although only the central funnel was functional. After valiant troop ship duties during WW2, they rejoined P&O and operated with the new HIMALAYA on the Australian run. But in 1954, when the new ARCADIA and IBERIA were joining the fleet, the older ships were downgraded to one class. There are portraits of the STRATHAIRD and STRATHNAVER, both of which look quite sleek with just one funnel, the result of the post-war retrofit. There are fifteen b&w interior photos. While the four cabin pics reveal a simple design, the public rooms are obviously from a different era.
