Cunard Line: A fold-out (20" by 26") interiors brochure for the SYLVANIA, the last of Cunard's less-than-successful Canadian quartet from the 1950s. This pre-maiden voyage brochure opens first to a four panel portrait, and then to two cabin mock-up color photos, and finally to six concept drawings of public rooms. These views of the First Class Restaurant, First Class Smoking Room, First Class Lounge, Tourist Class Restaurant, Tourist Class Lounge, and Tourist Class Smoking Room reveal that Cunard toned down the deco-centricity of the earlier ships and substituted it will traditional decor. The glowing text describes the success of the three previous ships as "immediate and outstanding". Actually, the ships were a flop, and Cunard held onto them for only a decade. Each went on to much greater success with new owners. In the case of the SYLVANIA, in 1968 she became Sitmar's popular cruise ship FAIRWIND. This silver-trimmed brochure is in very good condition.
