Various Ships - Original, large Holland America Cruises ship flag
Holland America Cruises - A large canvas flag that once flew from the masts of a Holland America ship. The flag measures 54" by 70" and displays the short-lived triple-chevron logo used when Holland America dropped "Line" and added "Cruises". According to the company, the old NIEUW AMSTERDAM and HALF MOON logo was "more illustration than symbol." The new logo represented Holland America's "brand image: water, movement, experience, going places, streamline." I suspect the public disagreed as a decade later the chevrons were off and the ships were back. The flag carries the tag of Dutch flag-maker Shipmate of Vlaardingen, Holland. Adding to the authenticity are flecks of white paint on the canvas, a reminder that even crews on HAL's famously "well-run ships" could splatter paint.Good condition.
