VOLENDAM & VEENDAM: 1958 - Matching souvenir portrait plates

Holland America Line: Matching souvenir portrait plates for the VOLENDAM and VEENDAM of 1958.Each plate measures 6.5" in diameter and features a portrait-at-sea with the ship name underneath. Both are back-marked Royal Falcon Ironstone, England.Interesting to note that the plates were not made in Holland. In a bid to survive when so many transatlantic lines went under, in the 1970s Holland America turned exclusively to cruising and moved their headquarters from Rotterdam to Seattle, Washington. Since the company was out of the country, perhaps one result was that souvenirs were made by the lowest bidder. Of course today it would say China on the bottom. Excellent condition.
