Athyrium Godzilla - Fern

Almost incorporeal lace-like leafs unwind from the earth each spring to give birth to this shade loving perennial. Larger than the traditional Athyrium n. ‘Pictum’ variety, this fern starts small, but unfurls into a shade loving monster. The spiked lace-like leaves and just off-white green coloration along with its nonstandard size evoke images of the famous Kaiju that gives this fern it's name. For those inspired by cryptozoology, or gardeners looking to add textured color to brighten a shady garden space, ghost makes an excellent choice. Godzilla was discovered by Plant Delights Nursery in the mid-90s and is thought to be a sporeling of Pictum and Lady ferns making it taller and more tolerant of dry conditions that most athryrium ferns.  Why we like Athyrium 'Godzilla'?
