Place them on the surface and lightly cover with vermiculite or sand as they need light to germinate. Keep warm (use a germination mat if necessary) as they need at least 70 degrees at all times and water from below as they don't like to be disturbed. You can also direct sow these in late spring once your temps stay in the 70's. In the garden we lightly dust with screened peat to keep the birds from eating them.
